Ooooh....she IS human.

Disney superstar, Miley Cyrus, was recently captured on video smoking a mint like herb, salvia, with a bong on her 18th birthday. Salvia causes mini hallucinations which are brief but powerful. Although there have been no reported injuries, salvia alters an individuals way of thinking.
In other words in the case of operating heavy machinery, salvia won't do much good. Most people believe that Miley is a major disappointment by making that decision. While the other half has a "what the hell" view. Let's check out both sides. Miley Cyrus, Disney popstar that has the heart of almost every little girl, is caught smoking through a BONG!!!! From a parents point of view this is unacceptable. Let's be real here, if you were to spend $80 a ticket to send your 9 year old daughter to a mystery herb smoking rockstar, you would be pissed as well? The whole argument is her role model status. From Hannah Montana backpacks to bed sheets, let's face it she is absolutely everywhere. Miley is looked up to by kids and is admired by parents. Not too mention the viral video spark a major increase in sale of the herb. If she has that much of an influence, smoking ANYTHING especially through a BONG is not a step forward for today's already troubled youth. Looking at it from the other point of view however, she is only human. "Everybody makes mistakes. Everybody has those days". What a day she had. Miley was legally an adult at the time of the video. Also, salvia is not illegal in every state. So, did she really do anything wrong? I'm sure hundreds maybe even thousands of people smoke this herb everyday. Nobody is shining the spotlight upon them. The bottom line is yes, in spite of popular belief, Miley Cyrus is a human being. She will make mistakes just like the rest of us. In no way am i justifying her action though. I believe it would be a safe assumption to say Miley knows how many people look up to her. With her career and her place in society Miley should have thought just a tad bit more before taking in such an herb. What the blank is this you may ask? This my friend is called life. The lyrics to Hannah Montana's song are true. EVERYONE makes mistakes. We have all disappointed our fair share of people. Once again, not saying I agree with her actions but cut her some slack.

  1. Wow, I am really glad you wrote this for your blog because I am a huge Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana fan. Mostly everyone I know would have wrote against her and called her a big disappointment like you said, but you didn’t and that’s really awesome. You pointed out good points with explaining she is human and make mistakes like everyone does. We all must learn that she may be a role model to many of us, but she is also still learning and growing and will like try new experiences like many of us do every day.

  2. Chris,

You demonstrate an ability to examine both sides of an argument. We live in a culture of hero-worship, but even the best among us are human.

  3. I like the way that you aren't actually defending her but giving the opposing side. But in a role like she has, you have to realize that the media is always watching. people feed on famous people's misfortune. That is the birth of reality tv right there. So in some sense she has to realize that everyone is watching. But like you said, she is just human and she is just a kid who doesn't always think every little situation through. Live and let live I say.

  4. The way I see it is famous people are just like normal people. They do everything that we people do everyday. Everyone does something bad from time to time. If they're bad people then that's just what they are, people shouldn't be judged because of a mistkae they made. Children watch tv, which is used for entertainment, so of course its all fake and you're not going to see the real them. So the children are looking up to what they think these people are. So don't stop your children from watching these shows just because the media exposes the real them. The tv shows are created to make them look good even if its real or not. We as adults know this already.
